Attendance Note: All band members wishing to participate in this year’s sunrise service that live within 1 hours drive of Winston-Salem are expected to attend at least one of these rehearsal dates unless conditions or circumstances prevent it. In such an occurrence that one can not make any of the rehearsals you should contact the director of your specific band to let them know you’ll be at the service anyway. Those living further than 1 hour from Winston-Salem or away at school are not expected at rehearsals but should still notify their specific director to let them know of your intentions of attending the service.

When: Saturday afternoon, October 18, 2008 – 4:00 p.m.

Moravian band players, directors, family and friends are invited to come out for a fellowship afternoon on Saturday, October 18 and play as a massed band at New Philadelphia Moravian Church (NPMC). The bandfest last year was a great success. We had over 80 players and family members representing over 20 churches. It was a wonderful afternoon playing under different church band directors. We played outside beginning at 4:00 p.m. and about 6:00 p.m. in the pavilion we enjoyed smoked BBQ pork ribs with the trimmings. The fellowship was wonderful.

Band Directors – We need your help. Each band has variations on chorales. Some play in parts, STAB or SATB. Others add repeats, incorporate various instrumentation for different verses – all refreshing our chorales. Bring your variations and direct a few for us.

If the weather cooperates, we hope to play outside in the parking lot behind the church at the pavilion and then about 6:00 pm we will move to the pavilion for the BBQ Pork Ribs and trimmings. Otherwise we will be in the fellowship hall. Moravian band players, their families, and band groupies are invited for the afternoon. We hope to have a great afternoon mixing two great Moravian customs – music and food! Come out for some great fellowship.

We will set out a donation basket to cover the cost of the meal and all proceeds will be donated to the Moravian Music Foundation. The Moravian Music Foundation will have sales table available with chorale books, latest CDs, and music.

It is very important for you to RSVP with a count that will be attending so we may prepare enough food. Please RSVP to Jim Snyder by Sunday, October 12. Thanks go to Jim for collecting the responses. 550th Anniversary of the Moravian Church

Place: On the grass Quadrangle in front of Wait Chapel, Wake Forest University

Service Time: 3:00pm

Band Prelude: 2:00pm

We need every band player that is physically able to attend. We’re striving to have a band of at least 550 players. Even with our largest actual attendance at an Easter Sunrise Service this would be a record for the Moravian Church, but we can do it.

We need every player from every Moravian Church and please tell everyone you know that plays in any of the band(s) in which you play.

All music will be selected from the Green Book only. On site sales will be available for any player not having one.

We will have sign-in registers to record the names and number of people attending so plan on being part of history by being there.

Parking is in the lot across the street from Wait Chapel.This same lot will be used by the large number they’re expecting as the congregation and it’s also used by WFU students who will still be in session.

Please allow extra time to get to the prelude site. We will not begin early but we want to start as close to 2:00pm as possible.

Moravian band players and directors are invited to come out for a fellowship afternoon on Saturday, October 20 and play as a massed band at New Philadelphia Moravian Church (NPMC). The idea grew out of the players who travel to the area churches to regularly play for funerals. While serving our Lord Jesus Christ in this funeral ministry, excellent friendships and fellowship have developed. Playing under the numerous area directors provides great variety – variations on 14A or 602A can be surprising.

As the idea of a fellowship afternoon developed, NPMC volunteered to host the event. Players are invited to come out at 4:00 pm and we’ll play until 6:00ish. We’ll play out of the green and blue books. NPMC will provide chairs and up to 50 music stands. You may wish to bring a music stand in case it may be needed. We hope to have a large group (100+) as this invitation is intended for all the Moravian churches so please forward to your various e-mail lists.

Band Directors – Please choose several of your favorite chorales that you would like to conduct for a group of this size. We hope to have time for each director to direct the band so that we experience the various directing styles.

All Band Musicians are encouraged to attend the New Years Eve Watch Night Service to be held at Home Moravian Church on Sunday December 31st. The band will provide a 25 minute prelude beginning at 10:30pm. The band will also have the distinct privilege of announcing the new year by playing precisely at 12:00 midnight during this service (whether the minister is finished or not). Band members wishing to play should meet in the balcony of Home Moravian Church at 10:15pm on Sunday 12/31/06.
